HISTORY...Westside Baptist was organized on the second Sunday of November in 1925. The organization of Westside took place in the old building of the Nazarene Church. Members met in various homes and vacant houses until a one room frame building was completed in 1927. The first building burned in December of 1942, but services were held in the basement of the First Church of the Nazarene and later in a tent while a new building was being constructed. As soon as the basement was completed, the congregation moved in and by December of 1946 the new building was ready for occupancy. On April 18, 1955 the building was dedicated - debt free. A period of growth began in the "50's. The educational building, pastorium and fellowship hall were the next additions. However, before the present educational building was dedicated(July 4, 1976) another fire (Oct. 22, 1974) destroyed the sanctuary. Again services were held in homes, vacant houses, and the gymnasium. The present sanctuary was dedicated in January, 1978.
Westside is a member of the Walker Baptist Association, the Alabama Baptist Convention, and the Southern Baptist Convention. We believe in the Holy Trinity, God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. We believe that the Bible is the eternal, infallible, and inerrant word of God. It is truth by which we are to live day by day. We believe that Jesus is the Son of God, whose death on the cross atones for our sin and provides eternal life for all who believe and commit themselves to Him as Savior and Lord.
